Homemade Toxic Free Playdough

Looking for something to do on these rainy spring days, how about homemade playdough.  It’s an oldie but goody that the kids are sure to love!  Plus it is toxic free so those little hands can get messy and be safe at the same time.  Here are two recipes and you should have most ingredients right in your kitchen cabinet.  If you want the playdough to last beyond a few days be sure to use the recipe with cream of tartar.  Make sure to store the playdough in a sealed tight container, baggie, or a recycled playdough container.

Recipe #1

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp oil
food coloring

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a medium size pot and heat on low to medium stirring continuously. Once dough forms a ball, remove from heat. Cool before using.

Recipe #2

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup salt
3 TBS oil
1 package of Koolaid (use the color of your choice)

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a medium size pot and heat on low to medium stirring continuously. Once dough forms a ball, remove from heat. Cool before using.

*Please do not allow pets to eat due to the high salt content.  Yes this should be a no brainer but little hands do funny things!
